Visual arts and design is an extremely broad area.  Forms of art fall into categories such as theater, music, opera, film, and media art incorporating most other kinds of art.  The graphic elements must be originated by means of visual art skills before any graphic elements may be applied to a design.  The graphics are often developed by a graphic designer.  Works which are primarily visual in nature using anything from traditional media, to photography or computer generated art are consideres as visual arts.  Graphic design principles may be applied to individual graphic art elements and to the final composition.  Art forms such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture, printmaking, modern visual arts (photography, video, and filmmaking), design and crafts are also considered as visual arts.  Applied arts such as industrial design, graphic design, fashion design, interior design and decorative art are also included within visual arts.
